Plan your play
The fundamental principle of gambling is to understand your stake as payment for entertainment (depending on a player’s financial situation and income, this amount may be modest or higher), not as a way to solve financial or any other personal problems.
Although players may occasionally win larger prizes, it is important not to give in to irrational hopes of a “dream win” that would instantly resolve all difficulties. For this reason, approach gambling with a plan:
- Set a budget: Decide in advance how much you are willing to spend on gambling as a form of entertainment, and compare it with other similar leisure activities. If possible, do not bring more money with you than the amount you have set for the evening. Avoid using debit or credit cards to withdraw additional funds for gambling.
- Set maximum bets and loss limits: Even if you are on a winning streak—or feel confident that you will win—do not place higher bets than those you set beforehand. Stop before you lose what you have already won. Decide in advance, at what point you will end your play after winning. If you lose, accept it. Do not try to chase your losses. Also, set a clear limit on how much you are prepared to lose.
- Track your Privilege points to assess spending: By logging into the Privilege Club and checking your points balance in the My Privilege app, you can access an overview of your gaming activity. This helps you self-limit and plan your future spending.
- Play in the company of friends, acquaintances, or family: Avoid frequent solo visits to gaming venues, as social interaction provides an important form of subconscious self-control. Moreover, remember to maintain social connections outside the casino.
- Take regular breaks: After playing for a while, step away from the gaming table or machine. Enjoy a refreshment at the restaurant or bar, explore other activities in the centre, or chat with a friend or staff member. Taking breaks can help you make smarter decisions and ensure that gambling remains what it should be—a form of entertainment.
- Be mindful of your mood: Avoid gambling when you feel emotionally overwhelmed, such as during periods of grief or intense stress.
- Alcohol and psychotropic medication: If you are taking psychotropic medication, it is advisable to avoid gambling. Similarly, we discourage gambling after consuming alcohol.
- Check in with yourself: From time to time, answer the questions in the self-assessment test to determine whether your gambling habits are healthy or if a potential issue may be emerging.

Myths and facts about gambling
Various myths and superstitions circulate among players. The fact is that games of chance are governed by randomness and are therefore beyond both your control and ours. Responsibility for gambling rests with each individual player.
Before you start playing, familiarize yourself with the characteristics of each game, how it is played, and the odds of winning.
