Between the Vipava Valley and the sea, on the edge of the Karst plateau, rises the panoramic hill of Cerje, crowned by the Monument of Peace — a memorial dedicated to all defenders of Slovenian land throughout history.

Standing 25 meters tall, the impressive fortress-like structure with seven floors is set within a natural amphitheatre, offering breath-taking views in all directions: across the Vipava Valley, the Adriatic Sea, the Friulian Plain, and the Julian Alps.
Inside this “stone giant,” visitors can discover treasures of history and art. Through five exhibition levels, the monument takes you on a journey through key periods of Slovenian history — from prehistory and the world wars to the war of independence and, finally, to the top floor viewing platform symbolizing a look into the future.
The Monument of Peace regularly hosts exhibitions by renowned artists in addition to its permanent displays.
The surrounding area is interwoven with well-marked Paths of Peace and numerous hiking and cycling routes.
