Nova Gorica destination

The heart of the Goriška Region is the young town of Nova Gorica, established after World War II, and which has been developing into a tourist and entertainment town over the last two decades.

Upon Slovenia’s integration into the EU, the town was reunited with its neighbouring town Gorizia, which after the war remained behind the state border. The unique example of both Goricas stirs up the interest all around the world; a witness to the union of these towns is an interesting mosaic on the square next to the railway station.

Nova Gorica is an excellent starting point for memorable experiences in Slovenia and Italy, since the sea (Trieste, Miramare) and the Friuli Region (Cividale, Udine) are just a stone’s throw away, and there is only an hour- drive to the world-famous Venice.

All those who long for an active holiday can choose among many sport and recreation activities: fishing, kayaking, rafting, canyoning, hang- gliding, bungee jumping, archery, tennis, skiing, caving, cycling, hiking and many other activities.

Nova Gorica is very easy to reach. In her immediate vicinity, there are three airports – Trieste, Venice and Ljubljana.

Goriška, a sunny landscape in the extreme western part of Slovenia, connects many picturesque regions of different characteristics, which have also many things in common – mild climate, exuberant flora, lush vineyards and hospitable local people.

The green Vipava Valley enchants every time with its marvellous vineyards, meadows and fields, interwoven between each other; it is a home of two greatest specialities, Pinela and Zelen. These are old wine varieties, which are being once again discovered and appreciated by the world of gourmets.

In addition, the hilly Brda are renowned not only for their cultural jewels, such as Dobrovo Castle and the mediaeval town of Šmartno, but also for sweet fruits (especially cherries) and for top-quality wines (Rebula); all of these mean an irreplaceable experience in towns and villages with a turbulent past.

The rocky Karst boasts not only the tradition of the stony architecture of the past centuries, but also delicious prosciutto, which matures and dries in the Bora wind, as well as Teran with its unique character among red wines.
